Good afternoon, Bookmarked subscribers!
Today is September 1st, which (to me) only means one thing...
FALL IS HERE!
Feel free to disagree, but every year I look forward to September 1st as the beginning of the fall season. I love the change in weather, the falling leaves, the spooky movies, pumpkin patches, Halloween. Essentially, I love everything about it.
If you agree with me about fall being the superior season, sound off in the comment section below about what your favorite part of fall is! Is it the pumpkin spice lattes, the cozy sweaters, or maybe even the start of football?
But, I suppose we should move on to something even more exciting than fall.
Last Saturday was the GRAND OPENING of Books & Gifts! Thank you so much to EVERYONE who came to our Grand Opening because it meant the world to us. It's been a long road to get here, but we are so proud of the bookstore and can't wait to plan future events.
The Grand Opening had a huge turnout. We had several authors stop by to say hello, and we want to say a big thank you to every single one of them. To Mike Grindstaff, Nova Mann, Melissa Snead, Pauline Petsel, Vincent Joy, Rita Quillen, and Karen Bruce... THANK YOU!
You'll be able to see pictures from the event in the September issue of Voice Magazine, which will be available very soon! (So, keep your eyes open for that.)
Now, let's move on to some reading recommendations!
This week, I wanted to highlight some recommendations themed around women's experiences. These books were published through JCP and can be found either in Books & Gifts or online.
"Things That Women Do: A Novel" by Cynn Chadwick
After Anna Shields receives an invitation from her estranged Aunt Lydia, she flies to Tennessee to find a number of older women - Tasha, Sadie, and Chloe - also living on Lydia's farm.
Losing power during a blizzard, the women share dark and startling secrets. Skating between past and present, they reveal frighteningly desperate things that they have done. Anna begins to realize, to her shock, that these things are connected to her own past and become key to her future.
This novel can be purchased at Books & Gifts or here.
"Scattered Flowers: An Appalachia-Inspired Short Story Collection"
"Scattered Flowers" is a collection of short stories centered around Appalachian women and the beauty of the Appalachian home-place.
These stories have been carefully crafted by an impressive collection of talented authors. Each tale is sure to tug your heartstrings, bringing laughter, tears, and lasting impressions that will keep you coming back to this anthology again and again.
This short story collection can be purchased at Books & Gifts or here.
"Women Ready to Rise" by Jenn Sadai
"Women Ready to Rise" is an empowering, thoughtful, and inspiring account of 22 women sharing their secrets, stories, and survival voices.
All 22 women share their experiences, and even though each experience is very different, there is still a common thread tying them all together. These women's voices will resonate with female readers around the world. From suicidal thoughts to depression, extreme anxiety, social anxiety, and acceptance of who they are, readers will walk alongside these women and feel their contagious triumph and power.
This novel can be purchased at Books & Gifts or here.
Well, that wraps up this week's Bookmarked post!
Make sure to check back with us next week, and in the meantime, please visit us at Books & Gifts Tuesday-Saturday! The three aforementioned works are absolutely worth a read, and you can find them at our bookstore.
If you've read any of these books already, which is your favorite and why? Or, if you haven't had the chance to read them yet, which one interests you the most?
Have a wonderful Thursday, everyone, and remember to celebrate the start of fall!
