Happy Thursday, everyone!
As Halloween gets closer and closer, I'd like to shift gears toward more spooky book recommendations for all the horror and suspense fans out there. Particularly, I wanted to talk about Jan-Carol Publishing's annual collection of scary short stories titled "These Haunted Hills."
"These Haunted Hills" currently has four volumes (one for the past four years), and each is creepier than the last! Our fourth book published very recently, and as someone who had the opportunity to help edit it, I can promise you... These stories will chill you to the bone.
Some stories within our four volumes of "These Haunted Hills" are scary, some are mysterious, some are full of plot twists, and some even have comedy mixed in. But, all of them are set in Appalachia or involve the Appalachian region in some way. We wanted to create a series of books that people from Appalachia could see themselves in, and it felt like a fun decision to involve the horror genre!
All four books within the series can be purchased at Books & Gift or online through the JCP website under "Book Shop." It's important to support local authors, and "These Haunted Hills" is full of short stories written by very talented and creative local authors.
If you've already had the opportunity to read "These Haunted Hills," which short story was your favorite? Or, maybe that's too difficult, and you'd rather say who your favorite featured author is? Do you have a favorite volume in the series?
Personally, I adored the very first story in Book 4, "The Man in the Fog," written by Jeff Geiger Jr. It kept me interested the entire time, and the atmosphere was incredibly spooky! It definitely creeped me out.
Before I sign off for the day, I want to remind everyone again about our upcoming book signings! We have a book signing scheduled at Books & Gifts every weekend in October apart from the 29th, which will be when our Halloween Event takes place! To learn more about each individual book signing, you can visit last week's blog post, where I discussed each author and the novels they'll be promoting.
Again, it's incredibly important to support local authors, and coming to book signings is a simple way to do this! All of our authors are so talented, and their novels are absolutely worth a read.
That's all I have for this week, so remember to pick up a book, go outside, and drink a pumpkin spice latte or some hot cocoa in celebration of fall!
