Spooky Book Recommendations for Halloween!

Writer's picture: Allison C.Allison C.

Good afternoon, everyone!

Welcome to another week of Bookmarked, the blog for authors and readers alike.

Today, as we near Halloween, I wanted to recommend a few of JCP's spooky novels in honor of the holiday. These novels are fantastic reads regardless of whether you typically enjoy "scary" literature. I tried to pick suggestions that would appeal to everyone, no matter what "spooky level" you normally find yourself being comfortable reading.

  1. First, we have Three Witches in a Small Town, by Willie E. Dalton.

In this book, three sisters are called home to their small town to learn the old ways of mountain healing and magic.

Guided by their aging grandmother, the sisters embark on a path of self-discovery. Through good times and heartbreak, the sisters stick together and learn a new appreciation for their unique family heritage and one another.

Witches, potions, romance, laughter... You will find them all in this novel.

You can purchase Three Witches in a Small Town here.

2. Next, we have Snooping Can Be Scary (A Lindsay Harris Murder Mystery), by Linda Hudson Hoagland.

In this novel, which is actually Book 7 in Hoagland's series, the characters find themselves in a rather spooky situation.

Ghosts and a haunted house are the enticements that pull Emily and her friend, Tim Riley, into the dilemma of being held hostage along with two of the local legal authorities who felt it necessary to search for the teenagers.

Lindsay, Ellen, Ryan, Jed, and Marnie look for the truth and the kids.

This book can be purchased online here.

3. Another fantastic spooky recommendation is Mama's Boys, by Jeff Geiger Jr.

For detective Barry Kendall, the loss nearly broke him. It's been almost thirteen years since Holly was killed, but he's still haunted by the sound of his girlfriend's piercing screams. And when the screams begin to die down in his head, the image of the witch that killed Holly that day is there to take its place.

Now, so many years later, Barry is working a case where two young boys have been kidnapped right out of their bedrooms. As he investigates, it becomes clear to him that the witch is not only responsible for the kidnappings, but that she's back to end his life as well.

This novel, which is a bit on the spookier side, will thrill you and leave you wanting more. It can be purchased here.

4. Finally, I would be remiss if I didn't mention JCP's yearly anthology, These Haunted Hills.

Currently, there are five books in this series, and we will continue to publish a new addition every fall!

These Haunted Hills is a collection of short stories that tease readers' curiosity of the supernatural.

With the Appalachian region as a backdrop, each story brings fictional characters to life with intertwining moments of mystery, humor, and horror. A group of talented authors has created delightful, haunting tales that everyone can enjoy!

The first book in the series can be purchased here, and you can find the rest on our website here.
