Good morning, Bookmarked fans!
Today, we've got another great interview to share with you all. This week, it's a Q&A with Meaghan Thomas. Meaghan is an award-winning broadcast meteorologist for the ABC affiliate, WKRN News 2 in Nashville, Tennessee. She proudly wears bi-lateral hearing aids and is a dedicated advocate for the hard of hearing, deaf, and deaf communities.
She created the non-profit, The Heart of Hearing, Inc., to raise funding for those who cannot afford hearing aids, and she wrote a book called "Heart of Hearing," which is an animated and entertaining story for children that encourages them to wear their aids. It highlights aspects of the world around us that would be missed if one chose not to wear them and helps hearing children understand why to wear aids.
All proceeds from the book go directly to the non-profit, The Heart of Hearing, Inc., created by Meaghan. You can find the book online here.
To hear a more extensive interview with Meaghan, please listen to our PODCAST episode this week, which will come out on Friday. Draco had a wonderful conversation with Meaghan you won't want to miss!
But now, without further ado, here is my Q&A with Meaghan.
BOOKMARKED: What inspired you to write the children's book, Heart of Hearing? How did that come about?
MEAGHAN THOMAS: At first glance, you would never know that I wear bi-lateral hearing aids. I am a big believer that confidence grows as you age and you are able to embrace what makes you different. But as a young child, it is not that simple. "Heart of Hearing" is devoted to encouraging children to wear their aids so they are able to hear the sweet sounds around them. It also helps hearing children understand why one would wear aids.
What can you tell our readers about the non-profit organization you created, The Heart of Hearing? How can people get involved with this organization?
Our goal is simple: to raise awareness and reduce the stigma associated with hearing loss. It is important to know hearing loss affects people of all ages, races, and socioeconomic classes. With access to the right resources, people can become empowered and gain the confidence to wear their aids. We strive to provide hearing aids for the young professional who cannot afford them by hosting events and fundraisers. We are dedicated to making the process of getting your hearing tested and being fit with the best hearing aid easy. To learn more, please visit www.theheartofhearing.org
Is there anything you'd like to say to supporters of Heart of Hearing (both the Non-Profit and the book)?
THANK YOU! Because of you, we are able to provide hearing aids to those who may not be able to afford them. 100% of the proceeds from the book, "Heart of Hearing," goes directly back into The Heart of Hearing, Inc.
