Interview with Author G. S. Craft!

Writer's picture: Allison C.Allison C.

Good afternoon, everyone! Welcome back to Bookmarked.

Today, I want to share a special interview with you all, with a very talented author of the new children's book, The Adventures of Louie: From a Playful Great Dane Puppy to a Gentle Giant.

This book is written by G. S. Craft, and it is based on the true story of Louie, the Great Dane.

Louie was a joy to everyone who knew him. He was a gift from God to Craft's family, and she wanted to share his memory with readers. With beautiful illustrations, the author has created a storyline full of adventure and added teaching messages of color and concepts throughout the book. It is a great story to read out loud and share.

Now, please enjoy the following Q&A with G. S. Craft!

BOOKMARKED: What is your background with writing? Did you always know you wanted to be a published author?

G. S. CRAFT: I have, for as long as I can remember, written in journals. I have many journals, and I have often thought of writing a book, thinking of different genres (fiction, inspirational, children's, romance, or even an autobiography).

What would you like potential readers to know about The Adventures of Louie?

Louie was our beloved Great Dane puppy that became so much more than a loved animal; he was our baby.  The joy that he brought into our lives was nothing short of an adventure into the mind of a brilliant animal that reacted as if he were human. He loved us, he loved children, he loved everyone, and most of all, he loved life.

What can you tell readers about your book's illustrations?

As a mother, and now a grandmother, I have read many children's books. I must admit, reading a book over and over again became redundant at times. I wanted my book to be simple yet intriguing, and one that the adult reader to a child, or a sibling to a younger sibling, or even a child themselves, would want to read over and over again. And my illustrator, Emily Land, has captured my vision to perfection. I wanted Louie to be portrayed as the Gentle Giant that he was.

What advice would you give to aspiring authors and writers?

Listen to that inner voice, deep down inside your soul. That voice could be your own inner being, or in my case, it was my God reminding me over and over, "Did you forget about your book?"

What's next for you? Are there more of Louie's adventures in store?

I have committed to writing The Adventures of Louie that will consist of three booksa trilogy. The first book is available now. Book 2 is in progress and will be sent to Jan-Carol Publishing soon.  Book 3 is also in progress and will be sent in later this year.

Is there anything you'd like to say to the supporters in your life?

My family and friends have been very supportive and have shared their pride in knowing an author. Many of them knew Louie and therefore are especially excited about this project. For me, it was not about being known as an author or writer, but of sharing the story of my Louie to others and the joy and life that he was all about.

Most of all, the support and enthusiasm that I have received from Jan-Carol Publishing has given me the confidence that I needed as a new writer.
