Appalachian-Themed Reading Recommendations!

Hello, everyone!

This week on Bookmarked, I'd like to share a few must-reads for anyone from or interested in the Appalachian region! Here at JCP, we love to publish works by local authors - especially when the subject matter pertains to Appalachia.

So, without further ado, here are three reading recommendations pertaining to our beautiful Appalachian region!

"Daffodil Dreams - An Appalachian-Inspired Short Story Collection"

In this anthology, eight talented authors come together to share stories centered around the strong and inspiring women of Appalachia. With tales that will bring readers to tears, evoke laughter, and invite you to befriend the characters within, "Daffodil Dreams" showcases the beauty and resilience of the Appalachian region and people.

It can be purchased here!

"Moon River" by Amber D. Tran

In this debut novel from author Amber D. Tran, a tale of adolescence and heartbreak unfolds. Nine-year-old Abigail Kavanagh first meets Ryan Mills during the summer of 1999. A shy and awkward boy, Ryan hides behind his wide-framed glasses while Abigail is determined to learn everything there is to know about him. The next few summers are filled with birthday parties, adventures in and around the West Virginian mountainsides, and late night conversations where they share their most secretive and personal thoughts.

"Moon River" is a story that exploits the brutal honesty in growing up fast, loving too young, and losing too soon, and it can be purchased here!

"Hope Knocking" by Nova Mann

"Hope Knocking" tells the story of 2020 from three different perspectives: Amantha, an opinionated retired educator who considers herself to be half hillbilly and half flatlander; Matthew, her soft-spoken mountain husband; and Nancy Mae, Amantha's charismatic elderly mother who has returned to her East Tennessee roots after leaving nearly 70 years ago. The three live in Mavie, a mere speck on a USGS topographical map, on the banks of the Diamond River.

All three of these works can be found on the JCP website, but you can also check Barnes & Noble or Amazon. The links provided above will take you to the JCP website. Please give these three works by some incredible authors a try! You won't be sorry.

If you live in the Appalachian region - or even if you don't! - what is your favorite thing about this area? Personally, I love seeing the seasons change around here because we have four very distinct seasons. Not everyone experiences all four seasons! Fall is my favorite, but I also love spring! Fall in Appalachia is just magical to me. Sound off in the comment section below what you love about Appalachia!

Check back in with us next Thursday for another Bookmarked post, and have a beautiful weekend!
