Good afternoon, everyone, and welcome back to Jan-Carol Publishing's blog, Bookmarked!
This week, we have an exciting interview to share with one of JCP's authors, Jeff Geiger Jr.
Jeff has written two novels so far, The White Room and Mama's Boys. Both of these novels would make for the perfect "spooky" October read. He has also contributed several short stories over the years to These Haunted Hills, JCP's annual horror anthology collection. This year, he contributed a story called "Row 13" about a haunted movie theater.
To check out Jeff's books for yourself, you can visit here. If you enjoy horror and suspense, as well as a good crime thriller, you'll definitely want to read Jeff's novels. To order yourself a copy of These Haunted Hills: Book 6, visit here.

BOOKMARKED: At what point in your life did you realize you wanted to be a writer?
In 2018, I was reading a lot of Stephen King novels, and there were several of his stories that inspired me to try writing a story of my own. I decided to write a few short stories for my friends to read. They all seemed to enjoy and be entertained by what they had read, so I kept at it since I had so much fun writing the stories.
Who are some of your author inspirations?
Harlan Coben, Greg Iles, Stephen King, and Dean Koontz are the first four that come to mind.
How would you describe your latest novel, Mama's Boys, to potential readers?
Mama’s Boys could best be described as a supernatural crime thriller. It undoubtedly has the elements of a horror novel, but with the many twists of a page-turning thriller.
I know you've contributed to JCP's These Haunted Hills horror anthology for several years now. What do you think are the key ingredients needed to craft a good horror story?
I usually think of the antagonist first when crafting a horror story. The protagonist, plot development, and setting is important, but you should have a pretty good idea of who your “boogeyman” is before starting your story.
Do you have any other general writing advice for aspiring authors?
You should definitely read a lot if you want to be a good writer. Be sure to avoid the passive voice, as well as using too many adverbs. It would also be a good idea to get a copy of The Elements of Style by William Strunk Jr. and E.B. White, if you haven’t done so already.
Is there anything you'd like to say to the fans and supporters in your life?
Thank you to everyone who has supported me by purchasing one of my novels. I’m also very appreciative to those who have read my short stories in the These Haunted Hills anthologies. Your support over the last few years has meant a lot!
